Introduction to "Envi-Able?"

In collaboration with the Institute of Community and Civic Engagement at De Anza College, we have come together as artists and students under the direction of working artist and professor Juliana Kang-Robinson to explore the meaning of the environment to us as residents of planet earth, and as artists. The project will be on exhibition in a location to be determined most likely in the south San Francisco Bay Area.

Our creative solution will involve several running themes that will tie together separate pieces of art into one large piece.

• Each piece will be a circular composition. We reached this decision because it allows a more organic feel than hard lines and corners, and also challenges the norm of the square or rectangular drawing composition.
• All works will be done in earthtones, with one dominant chromatic color per work. The idea will be to create pieces that as a whole provide an organic setting.
• Media will be mixed-media.
• All drawings will use found materials as substrates. For some this presents a new challenge of learning to draw on metal or plastic. This will reinforce a philosophy of recycling and sustainability.
